Game production companies in Omagh and across Northern Ireland are being invited to apply for a new funding and mentoring programme aimed at developing the next generation of local games talent.

Northern Ireland Screen has launched the Games Emerging Talent Scheme, which will support game production companies working with emerging Northern Ireland-based creators to develop an original short-form narrative game.

Successful applicants will receive support to create both a playable prototype and a polished, self-contained game ready for release on digital platforms such as Steam or itch.io.

Who can apply?

The scheme is open to game production companies based in Northern Ireland, including businesses operating in Omagh and the surrounding area.

Applicants must have identified an emerging talent, or IP creator, who:

  • lives in Northern Ireland
  • is not a principal of the company
  • is not currently responsible for leading IP development within the business

The programme is aimed at individuals who are at an early stage in their creative leadership journey and are ready to gain experience in developing and leading their own projects.

What support is available?

Successful companies will receive:

  • funding and structured mentoring to develop an original short-form narrative game
  • opportunities to work with experienced games studios and industry professionals
  • support to develop original intellectual property
  • help to strengthen production skills and company capability
  • an opportunity to build a pipeline of future creative project leaders

Mentoring will be delivered by participating studios and industry professionals appointed by Northern Ireland Screen.

For local studios, digital businesses and creative companies, the scheme could provide a valuable opportunity to invest in new talent while developing original content with commercial potential.
