Can you describe your business?
Informed Minds Training & Consultancy is a Specialised Child Protection; Safeguarding & Mental Health Training & Consultancy Company.
Why did you start your own business?
I worked as a Child Protection Team Manager; Case Conference Chair Person; Court Officer & Trainer for 10 years in Melbourne Australia for the government: the Department of Health & Social Services.
When I came home (in September 2017) I was keen to share my international experience. It also did not take me long to realise that in Northern Ireland we have increasing concerns around mental health problems. There are also new types of child abuse e.g exploitation, digital & on-line. This reality and genuine concern for our community prompted me to develop my own suite of trainings around Mental Health and Child Abuse in an attempt to reach out and educate others in our society: allowing others to “become more informed.”
What are the best things about running your own business?
I get to share my experience & knowledge while helping people- in my own unique way. I love managing my own diary too off course!
What are the main challenges facing the business?
Getting my name and reputation built up and as a result securing repeat clients.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business?
I would say deliberately learn every single day: identify your weaknesses and “become more informed”. Surround yourself with supportive people and position yourself in front of influential people and experts in the field.
