Can you describe your business?

I make Irish candles and melts containing 100% Natural Soy Wax, pure cotton wicks and paraben free fragrance oils.

I started making candles as a hobby about 5 years ago.  I had always loved the aroma of candles burning in my home.  However, I was always sceptical of the ingredients in some candles.  I wanted to make a natural candle that could produce that beautiful aroma and retain the scent throw again and again.

I am very pleased to launch Celtic Glow which provides luxury quality candles, melts and diffusers at affordable prices.

I sell online and also in some local shops in Omagh such as Print it Frame it, Casabella, Little House of Beauty and Kara’s Nails.

Why did you start your own business?

I trained in holistic therapies for many years.  This gave me the knowledge of the benefits of the natural oils.   As part of practising my holistic therapies I was always using candles and I began to experiment using my own oil mixtures.

I tested the candles on friends and family.  When people where giving me good feedback on them, I thought I could try this out as a business.

What are the best things about running your own business?

I am getting to work every day at what I love doing and also making money from it.  I can also work around my own schedules.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

A challenge for me is getting my product recognised and getting the brand out there.  It is also challenging to keep the online presence up to date as the social media platforms are constantly changing.  There is also a lot of competition.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

If you have something you love doing, test it out on a part time basis and get the confidence to then bring it to a proper business.  Then step out of your comfort zone and just do it!

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?

I love it
