Business Profile: Couture Hair Omagh

Can you describe your business?

Couture hair is a bespoke unique salon situated just off the town centre. Together with my team we strive to bring style and glamour through creative hairdressing We offer a wide range of services and luxury treatments and we also offer full make-up artistry. We specialise in bridal and we are also a multi-award winning salon through creative colouring and cutting.

Why did you start your own business?

I realised when working alone that I was busier than I imagined so from there I started to research opening my own salon and starting a different journey. I was a university drop out so I knew I had to work extremely hard to ensure that I wasn’t going to fail this time.

What are the best things about running your own business?

I absolutely love running the salon and teaching new techniques to all juniors and stylists. My passion is hair education! I absolutely love passing on all my knowledge to the others in the salon. I’ve also started my own blog page called ‘The Blisso Blog.’ I’m constantly advising people so I wanted to put my thoughts into writing and share my experiences with you all. Now I’m also at a different stage than eight years ago. I have two young boys who I adore so having my own business allows me to be a little more flexible with my time.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

Paperwork! I absolutely hate this side of business but it has to be done. The anticipation of increases in our utility bills is a constant struggle for us all especially rates. We are all here to build our business and create employment but the struggles hit us every month.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

Absolutely go for it but make sure you have done your homework so you can see that you can make it a profitable business. We all  make mistakes so don’t worry – I’ve made hundreds but this has only taught me to be better.

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?

Challenging and rewarding.
