Business Profile: The Kitchen

Can you describe your business?

At ‘The Kitchen – An Artisan Cafe’ where we pride ourselves on using only the best local produce, to provide top quality nutritional meals that are as delicious as they are healthy.

Why did you start your own business?

We all like to eat healthy but don’t want to feel like we are missing out and this is what lead me on the path to ‘The Kitchen’. Seeing it was hard to get a good wholesome plate of food, using natural ingredients and no refined sugars. Keeping that in mind ‘The Kitchen’ was born.

What are the best things about running your own business?

The best bits are the people, my customers. Their feedback daily lets me know I’ve done the right thing. And my staff, they are great, we are a team and I just love the working environment we have created. It’s a bonus to be the boss and have a wee cheeky midweek day off to go shopping.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

There are always challenges with any business, and especially in the food world. We take pride in providing the highest standard of local produce. That can mean that we ourselves create the biggest challenge, to not only be the best at what we do but to be creative with our flavours while staying clear from refined sugars and processed foods.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

Build your network, know your suppliers and make friends with the local tradesmen. But most of all, don’t be afraid to try!

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?

Fulfilling, creative and purposeful.
