Business Profile: Tim’s Sport Massage

Can you describe your business?

Established in September 2016, Tim’s Sports Massage offers in depth and specific sports massage treatments tailored to the individual’s highlighted problem area. We carry out full postural assessments with all our clients to identify areas of weakness/injury, followed by a full sports massage using a wide range of techniques to manipulate the soft tissue and fix the problem. We pride ourselves on our follow up and ensure that all clients get the five-star treatment. Sports massage can be applied to occupational injuries, sporting injuries or just general muscular aches and pains.

Why did you start your own business?

I have always been entrepreneurial growing up and owning a business was always on my mind. I never liked the idea of a nine-to-five office job, it just wasn’t me. I wanted the freedom to be my own boss and I believe that with hard work and a strong mindset, success can be obtained. Sport was always my main interest and after completing my degree in Sport and Exercise Science, I felt that the time had come to start applying the knowledge I had gained, and what better way to do so than owning my own business. Gaining my massage qualification while at university opened my eyes to the opportunities within this area and I noticed a gap in the market for a modern and relaxed sports massage room in the county of Tyrone, and in particular the Omagh area. The Enterprise Centre is the perfect space for building my business and the support they offer is second to none. Now, four months in, I am even more passionate about sports massage and I have big plans for growth in the near future.

What are the best things about running your own business?

The flexibility it gives you and the fact that I get to meet new people everyday. I am a big believer in building yourself as a brand and owning my own business, under my name, allows me to do just that. Sports massage is all about providing the absolute best service to every single client that I see. That’s what will build my business so I focus on the client first, everything else comes after.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

I think the main challenge that I will encounter will be dealing with demand. After all I only have one pair of hands and with the rate my client base is growing, I may have to explore the possibility of employing another massage therapist in the future. However, growth is essential so it’s not a bad challenge to face.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

Take a bit of time to explore your options. Be patient, be willing to work hard and don’t be afraid to take a risk.

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?

Enjoyable, engaging and rewarding.
