Can you describe your business?
The Crosshill Gallery specialises in providing a wide range of high quality contemporary art and hand crafted bespoke picture frames. We provide uniquely sourced art and advice to retail businesses, interior designers and the hotel industry. Within our gallery we also offer a framing service where we can frame your beloved family photos or your prized possessions including jerseys, medals, or even baby shoes. We also stock a range of homeware including tables, lamps clocks and cushions.
Why did you start your own business?
I always wanted to have my own business even from a very young age. After a few years of employment for a local firm I felt the time was right for me to start my own business. Having carried out some research I realised there was a gap in the market for the production and supply of high quality framed art.
What are the best things about running your own business?
I enjoy most of the aspects of running my own business. In particular I enjoy the fact that I can pursue my passion and create new pieces from scratch. I enjoy the diversity within the business and meeting people from all walks of life. No two days are the same and I enjoy the challenges that this brings.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
In these tough economic times one of the main challenges is managing risk and bad debt. The market place is very competitive and it is vital that we continue to provide a quality service at the right price and when the customer needs it.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business?
Carry out good market research and ensure that your product or service can provide something unique. Speak to others who are in business and get support from Omagh Enterprise with developing your business plan. Be prepared for long hours and hard work but running your own business is very rewarding.
