JMC Counselling & Training Introduction to Counselling

The Introduction to Counselling will begin on Monday January 25th 2016 from 6pm-9.30pm at Omagh Enterprise Company. The training will provide candidates with insights into counselling skills and theory. This short-course format is an attractive and unthreatening icebreaker. The application of these skills and theory and their development will then become part of the next stage of the counselling programme, that is, the Level 3 accredited Award in Developing Counselling Skills which begins immediately following this Introduction, on Monday February the 29th 2016.

Knowledge of basic counselling skills and the ability to apply them is of proven value to people from many personal and employment related walks of life. Employers and voluntary organisations have chosen to incorporate them into staff development training programmes to good effect. In addition, social workers, those training within a health and social care sector, teachers, community workers or indeed anyone who works within their communities will gain considerably as a direct result from learning new counselling skills.

The Introduction to Counselling course has, previously been used by large organisations such as: local authorities, health authorities and voluntary support organisations to underpin their worker development programmes and training courses. As this course is information based, there are no exams and no written assignments; this is to assist those who may feel anxious, to partake in something that is non-threatening, comfortable and easy to engage with. On completion, we are confident that many participants will continue with their studies with JMC Counselling & Training.

Level 4 Certificate in Working with Trauma

This is a 60 hour Certificate beginning Thursday February 4th 2016, from 6pm-10pm. Training will conclude Wednesday, April 20th 2016.

What you will learn!

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Trauma can be experienced in many ways; war, road traffic accidents (RTA’s), sexual abuse, bereavement, domestic violence etc. Students will learn about this very challenging and debilitating condition, identifying signs and symptoms, as well as using specific practical skills whilst underpinning these skills with theory.  The training will also teach students who either have experienced PTSD or Trauma in the past, or those who work with clients or patients who have suffered from PTSD or trauma, how to look after and take care of self. Those who already work within this area can suffer from vicarious traumatisation, compassion fatigue and/or burnout. This training is essential to these groupings in order to identify and avoid symptoms of vicarious traumatisation occurring.

On successful completion of this certificate, candidates can opt out with their certificate or continue their study. This certificate constitutes one full module of a Level 4 professional Diploma in Counselling; therefor, candidates only need to complete three further modules to gain the full Aim Awards Diploma in Counselling.
