Omagh Included In Christmas Parking Bonus For Towns

Twenty-five towns across Northern Ireland are set to benefit from a special Christmas and New Year parking rate. The new reduced tariff allows five hours parking for just one pound in 95 Road Service car parks. It will apply to car parks that have a tariff of 30p or more per hour. The tariff will be introduced from Monday 2 December and will continue until Saturday 11 January.

Minimum tariff

Drivers will still be able pay the minimum tariff in each of the affected car parks. For example, most car parks have a tariff of 40p per hour, so if someone wants to stay for less than an hour they can simply pay 40p.

The places where the special rate applies are:

  • Antrim
  • Armagh
  • Ballyclare
  • Ballymena
  • Ballymoney
  • Banbridge
  • Bangor
  • Carrickfergus
  • Coleraine
  • Downpatrick
  • Dungannon
  • Enniskillen
  • Hillsborough
  • Holywood
  • Larne
  • Limavady
  • Lisburn
  • Londonderry
  • Lurgan
  • Magherafelt
  • Newry
  • Newtownards
  • Omagh
  • Portadown
  • Strabane

This scheme will run into January to ensure people have time to shop at their leisure in the run-up to Christmas and during the New Year sales.

Special transport arrangements for Christmas period

Last week a Christmas transport package for shoppers and traders was announced. This included free Park and Ride services in Belfast, Lisburn, Newry and Londonderry during late night shopping days and also on Saturdays, fare promotions and an embargo on roadworks over the Christmas period.
