Short Steps 2014 Now Open For Applications

Northern Ireland Screen seeks emerging creative talent for their short film development scheme

Shorts Steps 2014 is a short film development scheme aimed at indigenous entry-level and emerging creative talent. The scheme is aimed at those who have not previously participated in this programme.

The scheme will comprise a number of seminars focusing on the development, direction and production of short film, with a view to instilling best practice and recognizable industry standards, and promoting a culture of short film in Northern Ireland.

Briefing session

In order to assist in the selection process of potential participants on Short Steps 2014, and in preparation for the scheme, Northern Ireland Screen is hosting a briefing session for writers and writer/directors.

The session will take place in the Black Box, Belfast on Thursday 29 August 2013 at 14.00. Attendees are asked to bring their short film ideas (script or treatment) for initial discussion.

The selection process

Following this event, Northern Ireland Screen will select a number of projects for participation in Short Steps 2014. The successful filmmakers will:

  • attend four writers’ labs facilitated by a script development professional
  • attend three directing sessions and lead a read-through of the short films
  • pitch the short films developed to locally based producers
