Omagh company Creative Media scoops top design award

Omagh based company, Creative Media, has scooped gold at London’s ‘design Oscars’ – the Design Business Association’s (DBA) Design Effectiveness Awards.

As the first ever business from Northern Ireland to receive the accolade, Creative Media can now boast at being in the top one-per-cent of UK design agencies.

Creative Media was the recipient of one of only 16 gold awards handed out this year.

Collecting awards is nothing new to the company set up by Marcus Isherwoord 13 years ago, with seven Irish Design Effective (IDEA) Awards in their trophy cabinet.

Having gained a reputation as one of the ‘most effective” design agencies in Ireland, Marcus is delighted to have now gained recognition at this prestigious London event.

The Creative Design managing director said, “This was a great surprise. We entered these awards last autumn and while we were confident in the quality of our work, we just wanted to see how we would fare against the big London firms. It was only really an experiment at first. I am thrilled and the team at Creative Media are so pleased to have their work acknowledged at such a high level.”

Attended by 450 guests, the prestigious ceremony held at The Brewery in London and hosted by BBC business correspondent Simon Jack, it gave the opportunity to celebrate the significant impact design can have on business success.

Judged by a panel which included senior marketers from brands such as Santander, TFL, John Lewis, Magner’s, Oxfam and British Airways, the winners list this year included work for such clients as Waitrose, Adidas, Nestle, Marks and Spencer, Procter and Gamble, Carlsberg, National Trust and Royal Caribbean Cruises.

The judges said, “Creative Media bring this ethos to business life everyday on behalf of clients across Ireland and the UK. And their approach is recognised in this first for Northern Ireland.”

It was Creative Media’s work for Really Good Premium Breads that helped them stand out for the judging panel.

Marcus said, “Securing gold at the DBA’s in the packaging category is the icing on the cake, and an even more impressive achievement considering Creative Media’s work was competing for the top award against national brands such as Seven Seas, Purina, Cadbury, Andrex and John West.”
