Omagh Enterprise clients Completely Covered, talk about their Career Choices

Name: Damien and Leanne Corcoran Age: 32 + 30
Job: Owners of Completely Covered, Event Styling Company, Omagh

What does your job involve?

On the front there is the wedding and event setups, wedding fayres and shows, meetings with customers, hotels and venues. Then behind the scenes is where it all happens. There is continuous stock control, ensuring all products are ready in time for each function, staff management, timing of each setup and collection. Designing and creating new ideas and products. Then there is the administration side – book keeping, incoming and outgoing post, keeping diaries up to date, emails, social media, advertising etc. There’s plenty to fill a day!

How did you get into this line of work?

When we were getting married, we wanted something different for the venue and there was nothing like this in Tyrone at the time so that’s when it all began.

Do you have a typical working day?

Every day is different with this job.

What qualifications do you have?

GCSEs and a Masters in early mornings and late nights!

What skills are essential for your job?

Determination is key as is time keeping. You only have one day to get the job done – or a few hours in fact. Creativity and vision to think outside the box with new designs and idea’s also helps!

What’s the best thing about your job?

Variety. Meeting new people almost every day and being part of such an exciting day in our customer’s lives.

And the worst?

Time. The nature of the job pretty much cuts out all weekends.

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself.

I remember when doing a business course, I was asked if I’d been to a certain hotel. At that point, I thought to myself ‘I’d hardly have the opportunity to get working there’. We are now the recommended supplier for that very same hotel.

So nothing’s unreachable!

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

There is more to life than work!

How do you relax in your spare time?

We like to go out for dinner and a few drinks, watch a film or go to a concert.

If you could swap jobs with someone for the day, who would it be and why?

The hotel industry is quite interesting so maybe something in that line.

What advice would you offer to someone applying for a similar role?

Be prepared to sacrifice.

If you were given the chance to live your life all over again, do you think you would have chosen your current career?

This job came around in such a random way, although now that we’re doing it, yes we would do it again!
