Northern Ireland companies urged to use technology to drive business success

Invest Northern Ireland is encouraging business people to consider what more they can be doing to drive success in their business.

Speaking at Invest NI’s Technology at Work conference, which was attended by 380 delegates, Mark Ennis, Invest NI’s Chairman, said: “Companies need to put innovation at the heart of the business because it is essential to growth and economic success. Through this event we wanted to raise awareness of how technology in its broadest sense can offer solutions and new opportunities across all industry sectors, from IT through to Healthcare.

“Many companies are already innovating successfully and pioneering new products and services driven not by technology but by ideas. It is ideas which drive innovation; and innovation in one sector can spark innovation in another. Sensors designed to predict epilepsy in sufferers for example have now been deployed in wave measuring devices in Galway Bay.

“We have companies in Northern Ireland that are pioneering new innovations across a range of sectors and exporting them around the world. Innovation is anything but business as usual and we hope to inspire more companies to innovate and support the future growth of our economy.”

The Technology at Work event provided a platform for delegates to meet, listen, discuss and showcase how innovation has worked for them.

As well as a celebration of innovation in Northern Ireland, the event also sign posted people to the support that is available to help develop new products and services.

Over 30 companies exhibited their products and services and 13 technology-led companies delivered elevator pitches at the event.

The delegates also heard from keynote speakers Ian Philips, Principal Staff Engineer at ARM Ltd of Cambridge, and Scott Berkun, bestselling author of Making Things Happen who spoke about global technology trends, creative thinking and managing ideas.
