Organic Food Award for Omagh’s Heavenly Tasty Organics

Omagh-based, Heavenly Tasty Organics has received a Highly Commended award at the Soil Association Organic Food Awards for its unique range of frozen baby weaning meals. The company is also celebrating a listing by Dunnes, the leading Irish retainer, for its products.

The Organic Food Awards 2012 were announced last night (Thursday 6th September) as part of this year’s Organic September, Europe’s biggest celebration of all things organic. Now in their 24th year, the Soil Association Organic Food Awards recognise and celebrate the highest quality organic food and drink. The awards are among the most prestigious and widely respected in the UK food sector.

Heavenly Tasty Organics was highly commended for three of their puree flavours – apple, pear and butternut squash – in convenient packs each containing 4 heart shaped portions for mothers weaning babies from four to six months upwards. All the products are suitable for mums seeking vegetarian and allergen-free foods for babies.

Over three days at the Duke of Cambridge organic pub in London, an expert judging panel of food critics, restaurant operators, broadcasters and chefs, including Hardeep Singh Kohli and Jo Wood, sipped, nibbled and crunched their way through over 500 products across 28 categories.

Judging in all categories was by blind tasting, with products rated according to smell, texture, appearance, taste and overall ‘yumminess’.

The awards are open to all organic food and drink products that are certified by a recognised certifier within the EU. Winners gain industry respect and are able to use the recognised and trusted awards logo on their products.

Shauna McCarney, founder and managing director of Heavenly Tasty Organics, said: “Winning this recognition from such a prestigious body as the Soil Association is a marvellous endorsement of the quality and wholesomeness of all our products and which new mothers have a right to expect. The awards will be extremely beneficial to us as we continue to develop our business in our target markets of Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland, as well as in Northern Ireland.”

Finn Cottle, Soil Association Certification Trade consultant, said:

“These awards showcase the best of organic food and drink and the high quality of products within this market. As the organic market returns to growth, this is a great time to encourage wider availability of these products so that more people can enjoy them.”

Heavenly Tasty Organics, an award winning Irish producer of natural baby purees, was formed by Shauna McCarney, a mother of two young children, in 2009 to offer mothers a choice of healthy weaning products.

A winner in last year’s Irish Maternity and Infant Awards, the company has won business from the Musgrave Group in the Republic to supply four puree flavours – apple, pear, butternut squash and carrot. Raw ingredients are also sourced from certified 100% organic farmers and growers.

The company, based at Omagh in Co Tyrone, has been assisted in the development of the range of natural purees by Jane McClenaghan, a leading Irish nutritionist. Heavenly Tasty Organics is also supplying its natural baby weaning products to over 400 Costcutter and Henderson convenience stores across Northern Ireland. The company has a home delivery service available to Northern Ireland residents however they hope to expand this service to include the Republic.
