Entrepreneurs Lead The Way!

Scientists, economist, mathematicians and many other ‘experts’ like to think that humans act in a rational way.

They generally believe the world works in an orderly fashion, despite centuries of experience that disproves their theory.

Nevertheless, we all accept that, at times, we are cautious and calculating in our actions and can be rational and logical when faced with important decisions.

More recently, however, scientists and others suggest we are less rational and more optimistic in our day-to-day lives.

This, apparently, is a revelation to scientists but old news to entrepreneurs who often make successful decisions based on an optimistic idea, hunch or ‘gut feeling’.

It turns out that people in general expect things to turn out better than they actually do. The belief that the future will be better than the past is known at the ‘optimism bias’ and applies to people across the world.

Even when things are externally difficult and challenging, we privately remain positive about our future and the future of our family.

This approach can, of course, be misguided and lead us to make bad decisions if we are too optimistic and isolated from reality.

But it has benefits: it provides us with a defence; it encourages us to aspire to greatness; and it enables us to move forward by visioning new and better worlds to work towards.

And with such vision tempered by logic and rationale we can dare to dream that the, as yet, unproven is not only possible but realistic and achievable.

SO, entrepreneurs take a bow as once again you lead the way while the scientists, economist, mathematicians and other ‘experts’ try to catch up.

What do you think? Do entrepreneurs lead the way?
