Data protection seminar for local businesses

Free event to highlight the business case for data protection

To assist the business sector to meet their legal obligations, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) will be holding a free Data Protection seminar on 18 October 2011 in the City Hotel, Londonderry.

Entitled ‘The Business Case for Data Protection’, the event will feature speakers from the ICO and will focus upon the application of the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) in various aspects of business, including employment, sales and physical security.

It will cover issues such as:

  • obtaining and retaining of information about staff and customers
  • recording of CCTV images
  • disclosing or sharing personal data

In the afternoon, there will be a choice of three specialist workshops to attend, covering:

  • cloud computing 
  • developing a data protection policy 
  • sharing of personal data internally and externally

Within each workshop, there will be an opportunity for delegates to raise data protection queries with ICO staff.
