AI Advisory Panel Signals Opportunity for Omagh Businesses and The Digi-Hub

A new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Advisory Panel has been established by the Department for the Economy, marking an important step in shaping how Northern Ireland grows, innovates and builds skills in the years ahead.

Chaired by Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald, the Panel brings together expertise from industry, academia and government. Its role is to guide how AI can be developed and adopted across the economy, while addressing challenges around skills, infrastructure and responsible use.

For businesses in Omagh, this isn’t just a policy announcement. It’s a signal of direction, an AI Strategic Direction.

AI is no longer something happening elsewhere. It is becoming central to how businesses operate, compete and grow. From automation and data insights to customer experience and decision-making, the opportunities are real and immediate.

That’s where the Omagh Enterprise Digi-Hub comes into its own.

The Digi-Hub has been designed to support exactly this kind of shift. It provides a modern, connected environment where businesses can explore digital tools, adopt AI-driven solutions and collaborate with others on the same journey. With high-speed connectivity, flexible workspace and a growing community of forward-thinking companies, it gives local businesses the infrastructure needed to take advantage of emerging technologies.

The Advisory Panel’s early focus on the Matrix report, AI and the Future of Work in Northern Ireland, highlights a clear priority: helping businesses adapt while creating high-value jobs and improving productivity.

That aligns closely with what is already happening on the ground in Omagh.

Through the Digi-Hub, businesses have access to more than just space. They are part of an ecosystem that supports innovation, skills development and practical collaboration. It’s about turning strategy into action at a local level.

The Minister has also highlighted the importance of building skills through initiatives like Assured Skills Academies, which are preparing people for careers in AI and data. For towns like Omagh, this creates an opportunity to connect local talent with local businesses, strengthening the economy from within.

The message is clear.

AI will shape the future of business. The question is how quickly and effectively businesses respond.

With the right support, infrastructure and ambition, Omagh is well placed to be part of that future. The Digi-Hub is already laying the groundwork, helping businesses move from curiosity about AI to real-world capability.

As regional strategies take shape, the opportunity for local businesses is to engage early, build skills and make the most of the support available.

Because when it comes to AI, standing still is not an option.
