Selling Christmas Crafts or Festive Goods? Here’s What Omagh Side Hustlers Need to Know

As the Christmas season gets underway, many people across Omagh and the wider district are earning extra income by selling handmade crafts, upcycled gifts, or running stalls at local festive markets. But if you’re making money from these seasonal activities, it’s important to check whether you need to let HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) know.

Do you need to report your extra income?

If your side hustle brings in more than £1,000 a year, you’re required to notify HMRC. This threshold applies to all combined trading activities — for example, £600 from Christmas craft sales plus £500 from another side gig would take you over the limit.

HMRC’s online checker can help you work out if and when you need to report additional earnings.

Self Assessment for side hustles

Anyone who earns more than £1,000 from side hustles during the 2024–2025 tax year must register for Self Assessment, submit their return, and pay any tax owed by 31 January 2026.

If you’re unsure, HMRC’s Help for Hustles campaign offers straightforward guidance to get you on the right track.

Whether you’re selling at Omagh’s Christmas markets, running a small online craft business, or earning from seasonal gigs, staying compliant will help keep your side hustle running smoothly into the New Year.
