The Department for the Economy, in partnership with Tourism NI, is inviting feedback from local businesses, accommodation providers, and the wider public on proposed updates to the statutory regulations governing tourist accommodation in Northern Ireland.
This consultation covers all forms of accommodation – including hotels, guesthouses, B&Bs, hostels, self-catering cottages, glamping sites, and other visitor stays – many of which are a vital part of the Omagh and wider Tyrone tourism offering.
The current regulations were last reviewed in 2011, and the sector has evolved dramatically since then. With the growth of new accommodation types, changing visitor expectations, and the rise of digital booking platforms, this review aims to modernise and strengthen minimum quality standards to reflect today’s tourism landscape.
Why local businesses should respond
Your feedback will help shape future policy to ensure that new regulations:
-
Support consistent quality across accommodation types
-
Provide flexibility to encourage innovation and growth
-
Align with evolving visitor expectations and tourism trends
Omagh and West Tyrone businesses—especially those in hospitality and rural tourism—are encouraged to share their views to help ensure the updated framework supports sustainable tourism across our region.
