About This Episode

In this 60 Second Challenge, Rosemary Carson from Success Coaching and Training joins Nick O’Shiel to share her journey from public sector work to launching her own business. She talks about coaching business owners, building people-first strategies, and the variety that comes with being your own boss.

Her advice on researching the market, building strong networks, and embracing continuous development is especially valuable for those launching or scaling service-based businesses.

Nick O’Shiel:
Hello and welcome to the 60 Second Challenge with Omagh Enterprise Company. I’m Nick O’Shiel and I’m with Rosemary Carson of Success Coaching and Training, who’s agreed to take the challenge. Rosemary, you’re very welcome.

Rosemary Carson:
Thank you. Appreciate you taking time out and doing this.

Nick O’Shiel:
I think as you know, it’s trying to answer six questions about your business in 60 seconds?

Rosemary Carson:
Yeah.

Nick O’Shiel:
Okay, we’ll start the clock. First question: Can you describe your business?

Rosemary Carson:
Success Coaching and Training is an organisation that helps people develop their skills for business. I work with business owners to develop their people and soft skills, and to set strategies to help them achieve their goals.

Nick O’Shiel:
Why did you set up the business?

Rosemary Carson:
I got fed up working for someone else. I was doing the same job in public service and decided I wanted to try it for myself.

Nick O’Shiel:
What are some of the best things about being in charge?

Rosemary Carson:
Being able to manage my own time, and the variety of people I’ve met and work I’ve done. That’s been the most exciting part.

Nick O’Shiel:
And like all businesses, there are challenges. What do you see as the main challenges?

Rosemary Carson:
Clients. Getting new clients, sustaining current ones, and offering something new and different.

Nick O’Shiel:
If someone were starting a business today, what advice would you give?

Rosemary Carson:
Research it. Get as much support and network with people in your industry. Get the information you need to set things up right.

Nick O’Shiel:
Final question: In three words or less, describe your overall business experience?

Rosemary Carson:
Stressful at times, but exciting and occasionally fun.

Nick O’Shiel:
We’ll stop the clock there. One minute 47 seconds. You’ve met the challenge, congratulations!

Rosemary Carson:
Thank you!
