Nick O’Shiel:
Hello and welcome to the 60 Second Challenge with Omagh Enterprise Company. I’m Nick O’Shiel, and I’m with Patricia Devlin from Sunday Life today. Patricia, you’re very welcome.

Patricia Devlin:
Thank you very much. Thank you for joining me.

Nick O’Shiel:
No problem at all. I think you know the challenge is to answer six questions about your business in 60 seconds.

Patricia Devlin:
Alright, I’ll try my best!

Nick O’Shiel:
Okay, I’ll start the clock. First question: Can you describe your business?

Patricia Devlin:
I’m a journalist with the Sunday Life newspaper based in Belfast. We’re a regional newspaper covering all of Northern Ireland with a readership of over 200,000. I cover everything apart from sport!

Nick O’Shiel:
And why did you go into this business?

Patricia Devlin:
I love writing, researching, investigating different topics, and telling people’s stories. That brings me joy.

Nick O’Shiel:
Sounds like you’re in the right job.

Patricia Devlin:
Definitely. I love talking and listening too, so it fits perfectly.

Nick O’Shiel:
What would you say are some of the best things about the job?

Patricia Devlin:
Hearing and sharing stories of people who’ve overcome adversity or achieved great things. You get to hear them firsthand and help amplify their voices.

Nick O’Shiel:
And like any job, there are challenges. What are the main ones you face?

Patricia Devlin:
Getting people to talk to you, long research processes, and working within legal boundaries. Sometimes we can’t publish a story due to legal implications.

Nick O’Shiel:
If someone watching wants to get into journalism, what advice would you give?

Patricia Devlin:
Do a recognised journalism course, work for as many publications as you can—even for free. Gain experience, be resilient, and don’t give up even when articles get rejected.

Nick O’Shiel:
Finally, in three words, how would you describe your experience of journalism?

Patricia Devlin:
Fun, challenging, exciting!

Nick O’Shiel:
We’ll stop the clock there. Two minutes and 18 seconds — congratulations!

Patricia Devlin:
Thank you!
