Farmers and agricultural businesses across Omagh and rural County Tyrone are being encouraged to take time to review their working practices during Farm Safety Week 2026.
The Health and Safety Executive for Northern Ireland (HSENI) is supporting this year’s campaign, led by the Farm Safety Foundation, also known as Yellow Wellies.
The campaign highlights the serious and often life-changing impact that farm incidents can have, not only on farmers, but also on their families, employees and the long-term future of the business.
As a member of the Farm Safety Partnership, HSENI is urging everyone working in agriculture to stop and consider the risks before starting a task. Taking a few extra minutes to plan a job properly can help prevent an incident with lasting consequences.
Farm Safety Week also encourages open conversations about risk management and the practical steps that can make farms safer places to work.
This year’s key messages are:
- Stop and think before beginning any task.
- Avoid taking unnecessary shortcuts.
- Keep machinery and equipment properly maintained.
- Work carefully around livestock and moving vehicles.
- Use suitable equipment when working at height.
- Discuss daily jobs and possible hazards with family members and workers.
- Carry a mobile phone while working.
For farm businesses across Omagh and the wider Tyrone area, safety is not simply a legal responsibility. It helps protect workers, families, livelihoods and the future sustainability of the business.
