Entrepreneurs with new and innovative business ideas can now apply for funding through the Regional Innovation Challenge — a Northern Ireland-wide grant competition delivered by Techstart Ventures.
The programme is aimed at founders at the earliest stage of development, offering Proof of Concept grants of up to £15,000 to help test an idea, explore its commercial potential, and take the first steps towards building a viable business.
A regional competition with local support
Northern Ireland has been split into four regions, each linked to specific council areas and supported by a local innovation hub. Applicants compete within their own region only, with shortlisted founders invited to pitch their business idea to a panel.
What it means for Omagh and the wider district
For businesses in Omagh and the Fermanagh & Omagh District Council area, this competition falls under the West region, supported in partnership with The Workhouse. The West region also includes Mid Ulster, creating a strong platform for local entrepreneurs to access early-stage funding and support without having to compete against applicants from Belfast or other areas.
Regions covered
North – Supported by The AMP Growth Incubator (Antrim & Newtownabbey, Causeway Coast & Glens, Derry City & Strabane, Mid & East Antrim)
West – Supported by The Workhouse (Fermanagh & Omagh, Mid Ulster)
South – Supported by CIDO (Ards & North Down, Armagh Banbridge & Craigavon, Lisburn & Castlereagh, Newry Mourne & Down)
Belfast – Supported by Innovation Factory (Belfast City Council area)
Multiple grants are available within each region, meaning there are real opportunities for entrepreneurs across the west — including those based in Omagh.
✅ Deadline for applications: 5pm, Tuesday 17 February 2026
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to pitch their ideas to a judging panel in their region, with decisions due by April 2026.
