Construction industry employers in Northern Ireland who are active for 27 weeks or more in the tax year must register with the Construction Industry Training Board NI (CITB NI).
By law, every employer in the sector is required to complete an annual Levy Return issued by CITB NI:
-
If your wage bill is over £80,000, you will need to pay the Levy.
-
If your wage bill is below £80,000, you will not pay the Levy – but you must still complete the return.
Why the Levy matters
The funds raised through the Levy are reinvested across the construction industry. This helps to:
-
Build and maintain a strong skills base.
-
Meet the immediate training needs of businesses.
-
Support long-term growth by tackling future skills shortages.
For construction businesses in the Omagh area and beyond, registering with CITB NI ensures you’re compliant with the law while contributing to the development of a skilled workforce that benefits the entire industry.
Registered employers can claim grants during the year for training and qualification achievements in many disciplines that will improve the performance of your business. Grants are available for:
- employing apprentices
- qualifying and upskilling your existing workforce
- obtaining an initial Industry Registration Scheme Card
- employing an Industrial Placement Student
- travel and accommodation for courses not available in NI

The deadline for Levy Returns is 4pm on Friday 29 August 2025.
