The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has created new design tests to help designers check if their products or services are compliant with the Children’s code
The Age Appropriate Design Code – or ‘the Children’s code’ – is a data protection code of practice for online services that are likely to be accessed by children. For the purposes of the code, a child is any person under the age of 18.
These tests have been created to supplement the existing resources that support the designers to create online experiences that protect children’s personal data.
Four new checker tools are now available to help you:
- find the best moments to engage children with privacy information
- design meaningful carer-child interactions
- protect children’s privacy by default
- meet children’s needs as they change over time
Each test provides a report detailing areas of good practice as well as steps you can take to improve your conformance.
You should note that this is not an official assessment and should be used as a guide to indicate your level of conformance with the Children’s Code.
Before completing these tests, you may wish to review the ICO ‘s Children’s code design guidance
