Can you describe your business?
So Social Marketing is all about helping businesses come alive and communicate online through various methods such as Social Media, PR, Blogging and SEO.
Why did you start your own business?
I started my own business because I had been made redundant twice inside 12 months. At the age of 24, I felt it was necessary to carve out a future for myself that I knew I was solely responsible for. Shortly after deciding to start So Social I was offered full time work which I accepted as I was saving for my wedding. I still work full time and run So Social on a freelance basis.
What are the best things about running your own business?
The best thing about running So Social Marketing is seeing the difference various methods of online marketing can make to local businesses. Given the nature of the business it is important to get results and achieving these results is very rewarding for me.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
Many businesses are still very sceptical of online marketing and shy away from availing of such services. This can be a challenge for business like mine however it is my job to overcome these challenges and show business owners what they are missing out on.
What advice would you give to someone starting a business?
I would advise them to seek as much help as possible. There are so many routes to take that can assist you; Omagh Enterprise, Invest NI, The Princes Trust to name but a few. Joining networking groups is another great tip because you can meet other people and discuss business ideas and opportunities.
