Can you describe your business?

LW Remote Office Support is a Virtual Assistance service based in Omagh offering business admin support to individuals and small businesses in the local area. Services include general administration including email and record maintenance; managing correspondence; document, spreadsheet and database management; report generation; typing support and other routine admin tasks. In addition, more project-based services are offered in the areas of staff recruitment, event planning, social media assistance and business process support.

Why did you start your own business?

As a business owner I am able to work my hours around my family commitments. Being a mum of four children meant that flexibility was my main priority so not having the typical 9-5 routine coupled with having strong administrative experience that I could outsource remotely seemed the perfect opportunity to have the best of both worlds!

What are the best things about running your own business?

I have always loved working in administrative roles and seeing projects through their complete lifecycle. I am organised and structured by nature and enjoy tailoring services to client’s specific needs. The type of work varies day to day so using numerous skills, applications and tools keep the day busy and challenging! It’s great too that I can plan my time around my children’s needs.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

The term ‘Virtual Assistant’ is still fairly new so encouraging awareness of the services is essential. However, the number of companies outsourcing their admin is on the increase especially amongst smaller companies where they can’t necessarily afford to employ staff but still need the relevant support to help the growth of their business. Additionally, businesses can use our services for as little as one hour so the cost/benefit ratio is directly proportionate to the company’s needs.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

“Feel the fear and do it anyway” (Susan Jeffers). It is daunting and certainly a minefield with so much to think about, but I’ve been pushed out of my comfort zone and the learning opportunities have been vast. There is excellent support locally for investing in your business and the advice and resources shared amongst other business owners has proven invaluable. I’d say…take one day at a time and just go for it!

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?
