Can you describe your business?
Stable Door Grooming is a dog grooming business in Mountjoy, Omagh. We provide services including washing, drying, coat de-matting, hair clipping, nail trimming and ultrasonic teeth cleaning for all breeds of dogs.
We aim to make the grooming process enjoyable by changing the way we groom to suit your dog’s needs. We also give advice on coat care, regular brushing and other issues.
Why did you start your own business?
I decided to open Stable Door Grooming so that I could work with animals, my true passion! I aim to make grooming fun, enjoyable and more accessible for all breeds of dogs.
What are the best things about running your own business?
I am in control of the products and services my customers receive, therefore I can ensure I always provide the best care. I only use the best and most suitable grooming products and I take time with each and every dog to ensure it is kept calm and relaxed throughout the grooming process.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
The main challenge I face is spreading the word about my new business. I rely strongly on recommendations via word of mouth and try to be active on social media platforms such as Facebook (@Stable Door Grooming) and Instagram (@Stable.door).
What advice would you give to someone starting a business?
I attended the Princes’ Trust Start up Programme; which was a great platform to get advice on how to start a small business. I would also advise you to get in touch with your local council to see what programmes they run or guidance they can give you. My local council helped me create a business plan as well as advising me on local business workshops I could attend.
