Can you describe your business?
We Are Digital does digital marketing that delivers results for businesses. This can be helping a business use social media to generate new customers, developing eCommerce websites that deliver new sales or creating email marketing campaigns that deepen relationships with your existing customers. We either do the digital marketing for businesses or train and mentor existing staff to do it themselves.
Why did you start your own business?
The challenge and the freedom. I am motivated by big challenges and developing a digital marketing consultancy represents a big challenge and an equally big opportunity. Also the freedom to succeed or fail based on my own decisions and to be creative in a way that makes a real difference to the businesses that I work with.
What are the best things about running your own business?
The pressure. Every decision I make, no matter how big or small, has a very real impact on the quality of my work, on my finances and on the success or failure of the business. I find that environment very motivating and think that it has a positive contribution on the quality of the services I offer.
What are the main challenges facing the business?
Building the brand. This is a new business and I now have to build a brand based on delivering results, great quality work and all with a fun approach. This is going to take time but if I get it right it should bode well for future growth.
What advice would you give someone when starting a business?
Learn to trust your own decisions. Deciding to start your own business is just the first of a lot of important decisions you will have to make, so get comfortable analysing the facts and information and committing to your course of action.
