Can you describe your business?

I work with businesses across Northern Ireland and support them in a range of various ways. The current employment climate in Northern Ireland is quite challenging, and employers have to focus on attracting and developing the most suitable talent. My approach to working with businesses is quite holistic where I focus on the business as a whole, so that everyone is crystal clear on where the business is headed and what type of people are needed to take it there. When this is clear for all, my work is to bring a laser focus to the next important steps such as recruitment, onboarding, talent management and training. My many years of experience in the field of employability, leadership and management enable me to relate to many of the challenges in the workplace today.  Every situation and every client is different, but underlying them all for me is the great joy that is evident when the individual and business gets to make the changes they want and need.

Why did you start your own business?

I have always had a vision to have my own business.  I enjoy working with people and love researching ideas and creating solutions.  I am delighted to have the time, energy and opportunity to share my knowledge and skills.   I enjoy what I do and love bringing my learning to life which I believe brings immense value to the clients I serve.  I am passionate about the benefits of  coaching and mentoring and how we can positively maximise the amazing resource that is our mind to help bring success in life and business.

What are the best things about running your own business?

Having my own business gives me the freedom to tailor my creativity, my solutions and my unique skills and experience to meet the needs of the individual(s) and businesses presenting in front of me.  I have the flexibility to provide a uniquely bespoke package for each and every one of my clients specifically and that brings me great joy.  No one solution fits all and I now have the flexibility to serve my clients in the way that best meets their needs to make sure they get the best results.

What are the main challenges facing the business?

One of the main challenges can be getting the message out about how powerful and beneficial coaching and mentoring can be to an individual and their business.  It’s often not until they have experienced the benefits that they can truly relate the positive impact it has made to them and their business.

It is also a challenge keeping the social media side of the business updated as technology is ever changing.

What advice would you give to someone starting a business?

I would advise them to have a passion for what they are doing and keep believing in their product or service offering.  I would also advise them to ask for help and surround themselves with the right people. These people should support you, believe in you and reassure you.  Acknowledge that business takes time to grow. Trust yourself and do the research.

I have found the support through Women in Business, Omagh Enterprise Centre, and Fermanagh and Omagh District Council to be excellent and would highly recommend to anyone embarking on setting up a new business.

Can you describe your experience of running a business in three words or less?
